Anna Hughes appointed to lead Office of Financial Management

South Australia's Deputy Under Treasurer and former finance executive Anna Hughes has been appointed Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Office of Financial Management – the first woman to lead the organisation in its 23‑year history.

Ms Hughes has more than 20 years’ experience as a leader in both the public and private sectors, holding senior roles in finance throughout the Asia-Pacific and in the South Australian Government.

Ms Hughes expertise and leadership will be invaluable for the AOFM in its important role in managing the Australian Government’s cash and debt portfolios.

I thank Ms Hughes’ predecessor as Chief Executive Officer, Rob Nicholl.

Since joining the AOFM as CEO in 2011, Mr Nicholl has shown exemplary leadership and provided advice to government during some of Australia’s most complex economic challenges.

Ms Hughes has big shoes to fill, but I have no doubt that she will do an outstanding job.

Ms Hughes was appointed CEO of the AOFM by Treasury Secretary Steven Kennedy PSM and she will begin her new role on 16 January 2023.

The AOFM issues debt securities on behalf of the Australian Government. It manages the Government’s cash and debt portfolios as well as providing advice on a range of financial risks.
