Chair appointments for the Board of Taxation and Tax Practioners Board

Note

Joint media release with
The Hon Dr Daniel Mulino MP
Assistant Treasurer
Minister for Financial Services

The Albanese Government has appointed the Hon David Bradbury as the part‑time Chair and member of the Board of Taxation, and reappointed Mr Peter de Cure AM as the part‑time Chair and member of the Tax Practitioners Board.

These appointments ensure key parts of Australia’s tax policy and regulatory system continue to be supported by strong leadership.

Mr Bradbury has an extensive background in tax policy and administration and public policy more broadly and brings substantial domestic and international experience.

He is currently a partner in the consulting division at KPMG Australia, as well as an Honorary Professor of Taxation and Chair of the Tax and Transfer Policy Institute Advisory Committee at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University. He was previously Head of the Tax Policy and Statistics Division and then Deputy Director of the Centre for Tax Policy and Administration at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. He was Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, and Assistant Treasurer between 2010 and 2013.

Mr Bradbury’s appointment will ensure the Board continues to provide a clear and considered tax community perspective when it comes to improving the design and operation of taxation laws. His appointment follows a competitive selection process.

Mr Bradbury is appointed for a three‑year period until 31 March 2029.

I thank Mr Andrew Mills for his leadership as Acting Chair since 1 October 2025 and for his continuing contribution to the work of the Board of Taxation.

The Board of Taxation is a non‑statutory advisory body that provides the Government with a business and broader community perspective on the design of the taxation laws and their operation.

Mr de Cure has been a member of the Tax Practitioners Board since 2017 and the Chair since 2023. He has held multiple Chair and Director roles since 2007, including the Royal Flying Doctor Service (Central Operations), Accord Property Holdings and Wirra Wirra Vineyards. Mr de Cure was previously a Member of the Remuneration Tribunal of South Australia and the Chair of the South Australian Fire and Emergency Commission.

The Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) is responsible for the registration and regulation of tax agents. Mr de Cure’s reappointment provides continuity for the Tax Practitioners Board as it works to strengthen integrity, enhance practitioner standards and improve regulatory efficiency.

Mr de Cure’s reappointment is for a three‑year period until 28 May 2029.

The Government is focused on delivering a fairer, simpler and more sustainable tax system and a robust regulatory framework for tax practitioners to protect taxpayers from misconduct and maintain community confidence in the integrity of the tax system.
