Logan’s first dedicated youth centre delivered jointly by the Albanese Labor Government, Queensland Government and Logan City Council is now officially up and running.
This is a space where young people in our community can come together, connect and feel comfortable.
Having grown up in our community and lived here all my life, I know the importance of having places for young people to enjoy.
As your local member of Parliament and as the nation’s Treasurer, I’m proud to be part of a government that’s delivering important projects like this one in our local area.
The Wilbur Street Youth Centre is a prime example of the fantastic things we can achieve for our community when all levels of government work together.
Thanks to Cameron Dick and Teresa Lane for partnering with me to deliver this project for young people in our area and their families.
The $5 million Wilbur Street Youth Centre was delivered jointly by the Albanese Government, Queensland Government and Logan City Council.
Construction began in October of 2023, finished in October this year and is now open to the public.
It includes a multi‑purpose court, a “hang out” zone, rehearsal studio, dedicated First Nations space, technology space, commercial kitchen and a laundry.
The centre will be used to support young people in Logan aged 12–24 in a range of ways, including through training programs and activities like music, dance, sports, Esports, music, podcasting, arts, crafts, building and engaging with elders in the First Nations space.
We thank the teams at Dart & Co and SAE and the more than 20 workers who built this centre for their hard work in the past year.
Our primary focus as a government is to create more opportunities for more young people in communities like ours and local projects like this are vital to that aim.
As a Labor government, we’ll always take care of Logan and the southern suburbs of Brisbane and other communities like it across the country.
We’ll continue to deliver the kinds of projects and services our community needs into the future, including a new stadium which we’ll build jointly with the Queensland Government in the lead up to the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
