Negative gearing opponent rubbishes Labor proposal

Labor has been exposed again on their ill-considered proposal to attack the value of Australians’ homes and increase rents.

Well known negative gearing opponent and economist Saul Eslake has today warned Labor’s proposal will create an ‘unsustainable property bubble’.

Saul Eslake is regularly cited by Labor as a key supporter of their proposal:

  • “Saul Eslake is a very respected economist, he’s an independent thinker. He doesn’t march to the beat of the drum of the Liberal Party, of the Labor Party or any other party.” Bill Shorten, Doorstop - 3 March 2016
  • “You've got the McKell Institute, you've got Saul Eslake, you’ve got ANU, and so they have definitely demonstrated and they are definitely satisfied that Labor's policy is a sensible policy.” Bill Shorten, Doorstop - 3 March 2016
  • Well we've got very specific analysis from independent experts like Saul Eslake and Richard Holden which say that under our policy, what we would expect to see is more sustainable house price increases.” Jim Chalmers, Doorstop - 24 February 2016
  • This has been modelled to death. You've had the McKell report. You've had reports from the ANU, Saul Eslake and Richard Holden.”  Tony Burke, ABC 7:30 - 23 February 2016

Will Labor listen to Saul Eslake today?
