As tax time draws closer, the chance of being targeted by tax scammers increases. The Government expects to see heightened scam activity and new tax scams being circulated in the lead up and during tax time.

The Albanese Government is urging people to be alert to the behaviour of scammers and vigilant with their personal information.

At an annualised 6.8 per cent, this is going completely in the opposite direction to Budget forecasts, which would have had it at 6 per cent by the end of June. The Albanese Government has reappointed Ms Sarah Lalor as a part‑time independent member (Australia) to the Australia and New Zealand Electronic Invoicing Board (ANZEIB) for another one‑year period.

Every day, scammers are ripping money out of the pockets of hard‑working Australians, and the Albanese Government is fighting back.

Today, as part of the 2023‑24 Budget we are announcing a $86.5 million package to combat scams and online fraud, headlined by the establishment of a cutting‑edge National Anti‑Scams Centre (NASC).

Setting up a National Anti‑Scam Centre will become, if you like, an intelligence centre for the fighting of scams, bringing together all the reports and reporting and sharing information. Critically sharing information against – to those bodies which can do something with it and act quickly.
