Thanks, it's really great to be here and have the opportunity to host our friends after they made me feel so welcome recently in Shanghai and Beijing.

Thanks for that introduction James [O'Toole – Joint Managing Director, International CEO Forum] and for inviting me here to speak to you today.

Thanks for the introduction, Bruce [Munroe - CEO, Thiess], and thanks to all of you for that warm welcome.

The Government's plan for a stronger, simpler, fairer tax system was announced three weeks ago.

Thanks James [Pearson, Chief Executive, CCI WA] for that introduction and for having me here today. I'm really grateful for the opportunity to do a couple of things today.

Thanks Chris [O'Brien] for that introduction, and thanks to the Media Club for hosting this lunch today and affording me this chance to talk about a Budget I handed down just three days ago.

Thanks very much Ken [Randall] for having me here again and thanks to all of you for your interest and your attendance here today.

Introduction Thanks for having me here today, in what has to count as one of the busier weeks in our history to be a Federal Treasurer.

Thank you Jim [Shapcott, Chairman of the Deployed Soldiers Welfare Association], and thank you to everyone for coming here today to support this great cause.

Being here in Washington on ANZAC Day is becoming something of a tradition for me. Last year I had the very great honour of addressing the ANZAC Day service at the National Cathedral.

Thank you for the invitation to speak today and to share the stage with Anna and Bernard here.

It's great to be here with the NAB and Cameron [Clyne], and all of your staff and of course all of those other organisations represented in the room today to celebrate the list that's been released

Mr Speaker, on several occasions now since this Government took office, I've updated the House on Australia's path through the worst global recession in 75 years.

Thank you for coming along to the Press Club today – a forum which has played such an important role in chronicling the extraordinary economic times of the past year and a half.
