REBECCA LEVINGSTON:
Lachie is the only one actually doing any work out in the producers’ booth. He has just written on the screen there’s a caller Jim who is a must take. Are you saying that I should take this call now? Okay. Jim. Good evening, Jim.
JIM CHALMERS:
Hi Bec, it’s Jim Chalmers here. How are you?
Press conference, Sydney
JIM CHALMERS:
I wanted to cover off primarily on the National Accounts released in the last hour or so, but I also wanted to touch on issues with the Commonwealth Bank and I wanted to say something about the crypto guidance that’s been released by ASIC today as well.
Interview with Kieran Gilbert, Sky News
KIERAN GILBERT:
I want to go live now to the Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, who joins us on today’s National Accounts number. This number has come in below what the RBA had thought and had forecast, below market expectations. I know you say we’re on track for a soft landing, but for many households it does not feel like that, does it?
National Accounts – September quarter 2024
Today’s National Accounts confirm that growth in the Australian economy continues to be positive but weak.
Our economy is growing but very slowly, weighed down by interest rates, cost of living pressures and global uncertainty.
Fostering an innovative, safe and secure digital asset industry
The Albanese Government is working with industry and regulators to develop a fit for purpose digital asset regulatory regime, to build a more dynamic and competitive economy.
Our Government takes the crypto industry seriously and we know that blockchain and digital assets present big opportunities for our economy, our financial sector and innovation.
