We’re going to talk about cash now because the government has moved to protect those people who don’t want to continue to pay with cash. Joining me now is Assistant Treasurer Stephen Jones. Stephen, great to see you. First of all, this levy on the banks, whose idea was that?

Appointments – Members, Companies Auditors Disciplinary Board
The Albanese Government has appointed Mr Brad Potter as a part‑time accounting member beginning on 18 February 2025 and reappointed Ms Kerrie Howard as a part‑time business member beginning on 4 March 2025 to the Companies Auditors Disciplinary Board (CADB) for a three‑year period.
Ensuring the future of cash and next steps in phasing out cheques
The Albanese Government is taking action so Australians can continue to pay with cash for essential items if they want to, while also ensuring an orderly transition to phase out cheques.
People are increasingly using digital payment methods, but there is an ongoing place for cash in our society under the Albanese Government.
